In Federico Veratti’s choreographic adaptation for the Ballet of Milan, the essence of Shakespeare’s tragedy is celebrated through a blend of classical and contemporary dance. The protagonists, Romeo and Juliet, express with intensity the strength of a feeling that resists the weight of fate. The choreography alternates between moments of great emotion—such as poignant pas de deux—and energetic, captivating ensemble dances, enriched by technical virtuosity that highlights the dancers’ skill.
The work unfolds through a narrative faithful to the original: Romeo’s gaze meets Juliet’s, and despite the feud between their families, a love is born that fate will try in every way to destroy. The tragic ending is well known, but love triumphs, in a moving finale where the two young lovers, hand in hand, pass through a beam of light. Gold and silver, symbols of the rival houses, shine on stage, transforming the tragedy into a celebration of the power of emotion.
The ballet stands out for its elegant and evocative mise-en-scène and the intense performance of all characters. The dancers perfectly embody the emotions and tensions that drive the story, offering the audience a deeply emotional and powerful experience.
